A regulation-size pool table has a width half
its length. The 4 foot by 8 foot tables are the most popular, although there are
other sizes, including 9 foot tournament-size tables. Any quality table uses a
slate bed for a playing field. Since this slate may weigh 650 pounds or more,
the frame must properly support that weight. The slate bed and support of that
bed is one clear area where all pool tables aren't created equally.
