The game has popular pinball mechanical features including a spinning disk in
the playfield center, captive ball, drop targets, ramps, diverter and the
like.
NBA has a basketball backboard with magnet. When the player shoots a basket,
the magnet holds the ball momentarily and then drops it toward the basket,
assisting the player. NBA has 3 spectacular basketball shots. There is a ramp
shot off the flippers aimed at the basket. There is a jump shot, made when the
ball goes up a plastic ramp and circles just below the basket. And there is a
free throw shot, where the ball is thrown 12 inches (30 centimeters) through
the air to the basket.
The game is very understandable. The game keeps track of a player's basketball
points earned for shooting baskets and of normal pinball points. The novice
player may concentrate on shooting baskets. Reaching various levels of
basketball score turns on various features. Experts will find plenty of modes
and rules to strategize as they try to maximize normal pinball points.
